Extracting part data from electronics datasheets

An electronics-sourcing platform used Docen to pull structured specs from thousands of component datasheets.

The challenge

An electronics-sourcing platform needed structured specifications from component datasheets — dense, table-heavy PDFs where the same value might appear in three different layouts across manufacturers.

The approach

Docen parsed each datasheet, preserved the specification tables as structured cells, and extracted key parameters against a schema with citations, so mismatches were easy to audit.

  • Parsing and layout to recover clean structure.
  • Schema-driven extraction for the fields that mattered.
  • Evaluation against a labeled sample before rollout.

The outcome

The platform enriched its catalog automatically instead of relying on manual spec entry, and kept the data current as new datasheets arrived.

Datasheet tables are chaos across vendors. Docen kept the cells intact, which is exactly what we needed.— Head of Data, electronics-sourcing platform
